Keeping your Winter comfort food Lean and made tender? Impossible! NO. Possible. We know that over the summer the grill is our number 1 best friend to keeping our kitchen and our diets clean. What happens in the winter, when our bodies are craving hearty comfort foods like meat and potatoes, creamy sauces and rich desserts? Here are a few tips to help you stay comfortable in your jeans while feeding your soul.
1. Cook it slow. Keep lean meats & fish tender by cooking them at a low temperature for longer. Believe it or not it can even keep your chicken breast tender. Slow cook some lean meat or veggie soups, stews or chilis. Consider shredding the ultra lean cuts. Fill your home with the heartwarming belly growling aromas of food made with love.
2. Think baking dishes with squash, apples, mushrooms, legumes or raisins instead of potatoes, pasta & pie
3. Cream it up w/ greek yogurt, avacado, pureed veggies, ground nuts or yes a tablespoon of brown rice flour instead of meat fats or the almighty heavy cream.
4. Spice is nice and totally psychological. Add rosemary, wine, sage or cinnimon to anything and it should do the trick.
