Food is Fuel - Keeping it simple
When you have a goal, particularly a weight loss goal or a strength building goal, there is a misconception that the best way to see results is to starve yourself and cut your calories to an extreme in order to reach your goals faster or even at all. What must be remembered is that the body MUST be properly fueled in order to function at its best. Take this visual scenario for example.
Imagine you are driving your car and your oil tank is dry as your gas tank. Have you ever been in a situation where you have literally run out of gas? Can you remember the sudden panic that sets in as as the wheel locks up and you have your vehicle has suddenly stopped responding to your commands? On the other hand imagine your tank has been overfilled. Have you ever squeezed the pump trigger after it has auto stopped just a little more to round off to the nearest dollar ? When you top off your gas tank, the gas ends up in all the wrong places and can cause issues that may not be noticeable until later, the same way neglecting engine oil does.
Now using the parallel remember that it is your responsibility to fuel your body optimally. Have you ever heard about your Basal Metabolic Rate? Essentially it is the minimum amount of gas/calories you need to put in your car, or in this case your body. You can put cheap gas, or high quality and you can run on fumes or over fill your tank. Whatever you decide to fuel with will dictate how efficiently you run. Putting in the right amount is very important. If you are curious to find out what your Basal Metabolic Rate is, find your resident LifeStart trainer and they will make it possible. In the meantime, keep it clean, keep it running with the best fuel you can. Your body will thank you for it.
